Books

Three books that probably influence me are the Harry Potter Series by J.k. Rowling, Looking For Alaska by John Green, and the most recent that I read which is the Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins. Harry Potter is one of them obviously, because reading it and being part of that fandom has introduced me to so many things that I would never be a part of if I had not read Harry Potter. Plus the book is very addicting, you get sucked in from the very first page. Looking For Alaska is another very influential book for me. The first time reading, I wasnt sucked in, but further reading it, I realize that its not just another regular teen book, but one that actually makes you think about life and why your here. John Green is my favorite author because of it. THe Hunger Games series is also another one that just hits you, and make you think about how you live your life. From the very first time, I picked it up, I couldnt put it down. I finished both books in the series in one day. When the third one of the series comes out, I know that it will be mind blowing also.

Media Impact

If were to propose a media research topic, I would probably research the effects that online sites such as Youtube, Hulu, Tv shack, and other sites similar to that have on the viewership of television, and how that affects tv ratings. There are many different ways to go about on finding this. I'll probably start with surveying people on how they watch the shows that they love the most, catching it on television or watching it online. If they do watch online I'll probably have a followup question on why they watch it online. I could also maybe team up with a popular brand, have a promo for their product on a tv commercial saying that they have to log onto a 'this' website to get their prize, have it run for a month. Then stop the tv ads for a period of time, enough that people do not remember it, then have the same promo on online ads. Which ever time period had the most response on the website can determine which one had the more viewership.
